Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bumperchute® waterproof? Definitely! Bumperchutes are manufactured in the USA using high-quality, 70 denier polyurethane coated ripstop nylon fabric.

Is Bumperchute® fire retardant as well? Yes. Even though federal regulations do not require that the Bumperchute meet the CPAI-84 fire code for tents or closed structures, we wanted to offer our customers the safety and peace of mind that fire retardant fabric provides.
REMEMBER: Always turn off your vehicle before setting up the Bumperchute. Do not smoke or use a barbecue grill under the Bumperchute canopy. The fabric will not erupt into flames, but it will melt and could result in burns or other serious injuries.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND USE COMMON SENSE!

Why does Bumperchute® use aluminum poles? Aluminum is stronger and won't splinter like fiberglass, making the Bumperchute poles more durable. Bumperchute uses superior aluminum poles made by Easton Technical Products, manufactured in the USA.

Why are there nylon loops on the bottom of the liftgate model? The loops provide additional anchor points to allow the Bumperchute user to tie the canopy down more securely in strong wind conditions. The anchor loops are another unique feature of the Bumperchute rear cover.

How do I know if I need a Roof Mount Kit (RMK)? Typically, most SUVs and minivans have a roof rack, which allows for easy installation of the Bumperchute. But if the roof rack has been removed or was never installed, you will probably need the RMK.

If I don't have a roof rack, how does the RMK attach to my vehicle? It depends on the make of your SUV or minivan.

A. Ford: If the roof rail track (two tracks running the length of the vehicle) are still on the top of your vehicle and the eye loops are attached to the rail, loosen the eye loops and slide them towards the rear. Attach the Bumperchute to the eye loops. If the rails are there but no loops, then you must purchase eye loops us (cost: about $20) or at a Ford dealer. If there are no rails or loops, the RMK can be attached by drilling holes in the roof of the vehicle (instructions included in the kit), or by using the suction cups provided in the RMK.

B. Other brands of vehicles: To attach the RMK it will be necessary to drill holes in the roof as described above or use the suction cups as a temporary measure.

Why is there a price difference between the First Responder model, used by fire departments and other emergency response teams, and the Bumperchute® designed for recreational users? First Responder models have additional features, such as vinyl windows, reflective tape for nighttime visibility, a hook and loop attachment for the brow cover, and other color options. Fire departments and other first response workers can buy and use recreational Bumperchutes, and recreational users may need to purchase a First Response model. Bumperchutes designed for Ford Excursions, for example, are available only through the First Responder line.

What is the "brow cover"? An accessory for the First Responder model, the brow cover hides the preprinted "Command Post" designation and allows the user to customize the vehicle identification; e.g., substituting "Operations," "HAZMAT," or some other title. Brow covers do not fit the recreational models.

What is the "Seam Sure" accessory, and do I need it? Although we strive to design the Bumperchute with as few seams or stitch holes in the top as possible, some models have reinforcement sections and seams that benefit with sealing the stitch holes, depending on weather conditions.

Why are there different color combinations available for recreational cargo door models (CD-19 and CD-20) and only black and white for liftgate models (LG)? Originally the Bumperchute was produced in various color combinations, but the black/white model became our top seller. There are a limited number of liftgate models available in the following colors: purple/gold, maroon/silver, orange/black, camouflage (Advantage Wetlands Camo ®) for hunting enthusiasts, and the red, white and blue Lone Star flag edition for our friends in Texas.

BUMPERCHUTES ARE PROUDLY MANUFACTURED IN THE USA OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY MATERIALS AND ARE MADE TO LAST FOR YEARS OF DEPENDABILITY AND CONVENIENCE.
